When You Should Sue an Individual or Corporation: Lessons From Kim Kardashian

When Kim Kardashian announced she was divorcing her husband, basketball player Kris Humphries, after just 72 days of marriage, the backlash against the reality TV star was swift and intense. Among those publicly calling the marriage a sham was none other than Kardashian’s former publicist, Jonathan Jaxson.

But when Jaxson flat-out suggested in media interviews that the Kardashian-Humphries nuptials were a “staged” event, Kim K. immediately struck back and announced she was suing her ex publicist for at least $200,000.

Chinua Achebe shuts down 50 Cent’s ‘Things Fall Apart’

Clutch Magazine writer Jamilah Lemieux has an interesting article about how Chinua Achebe shuts down 50 Cent’s “Things Fall Apart.”

Seems that 50 made a movie using that uses the same name as the famous book. But, according to Lemieux’s story, camp Achebe is bringing those plans to call the film “Things Fall Apart” to a screeching halt.

According to the Clutch article:

When The Roots titled their 1999 album Things Fall Apart, most folks accepted the nod to Chinue Achebe’s 1958 novel of the same title. However, when the author got word that a new Mario Van Peebles film starring rapper-turned-Duke kit model 50 Cent was using the same title, he shut ‘em down quickly. Broadway Ghana reports that producers tried to pay Achebe $1 million to keep the name, but he declined:

“…the legal reps of Chinua Achebe’s foundation unconditionally informed the producers that; “the novel with the said title was initially produced in 1958 (that is 17 years before rapper 50 Cent was born), listed as the mostly read book in modern African literature, and won’t be sold for even 1 Billion Dollars.””

The film, featured a much slimmed-down 50 Cent, was slated to debut at the Urbanworld Film Festival in New York from September 14-18, 2011.
