USA Today Podcast: 12 Easy Ways to Save for Retirement

How many years are you away from retirement?

Regardless of whether retirement is just around the corner or a long way off, what matters most is the answer to this question:

Have you saved or will you be able to save enough for retirement?

If your answer is no, you are not alone.

Middle-class people in the United States have a median of $20,000 saved for retirement, far short of the $250,000 they think they’ll need during that time of their lives, according to a new survey from Wells Fargo.

And if that’s not bad enough, some people haven’t saved anything at all. A recent study from Bankrate.com found that 36% of adults in America have exactly $0 dollars set aside for retirement.

During a recent interview and podcast with Nanci Helmich of USA TODAY, I offered many suggestions to help anyone boost their savings and prepare financially for retirement.

For example, have you ever heard of IDAs, or Individual Development Accounts? If not, you may be missing out on an easy and little-known way to turbo-charge your retirement savings.
