I am a huge fan of actor Bill Duke. In fact, I just watched him in one of my all time favorite movies, Predator (a must have for your man cave library). Now I’m an even bigger fan because I just found out that Duke is combining two of my favorite things: media and financial literacy.
The legendary performer/producer/writer is currently seeking applications for youth ages 14 thru 18 for the Bill Duke Youth Media Camp sponsored by the Duke Media Foundation.
The course, which was founded by Duke, will select just 12 teens to participate in its weekend spring session, which begins Saturday, May 23, 2015 and last 10 weeks until Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015.
About the Duke Youth Media Camp
The Duke Youth Media Camp is a training and educational program that focuses on Media Technology and Financial Literacy.
The Media Technology part of the program teaches teenagers a variety of media skills, ranging from film and video production and screen-writing to producing, directing and editing. The lucky dozen students chosen will learn how to create films and documentaries, as well as use cell phone applications, game applications, and mobile television applications.
The Financial Literacy component teaches students about personal finances, money-management, entrepreneurship and smart spending. Each class will feature industry professionals as guest speakers and will give students an opportunity to intern with industry professionals.
Students’ final assignment is to produce a video, commercial or documentary that will then serve as their demo reel for future employment in the industry.
The deadline to apply for the program is May 6, 2015. Applicants must submit an online application and write a one-page essay on “Why I Should Be Chosen for the Bill Duke Youth Media Camp.”
