I remember when P. Diddy sang: “It’s all about the Benjamins, baby!” Well, apparently the feds agree, because the government is releasing a re-designed, new $100 bill starting Oct. 8, 2013.

As you probably know, the $100 note features the image of Benjamin Franklin.

But what you may not have known is that for years federal officials have wanted to revamp the $100 currency, to make it easier for consumers and businesses to authenticate – and harder for counterfeiters to copy.

So the new version of the $100 bill contains several special enhancements as well as security features that make will be tougher for scammers to replicate. The changes on the new $100 bill include:

• a liberty bell in the inkwell
• a blue, 3-D security ribbon
• a portrait watermark
• a color-shifting 100
• a gold 100
• raised printing; and
• micro-printing

The new design for the $100 note was originally unveiled in 2010, but its release was postponed after an unexpected production delay.

Now that the wait for a souped up c-note is close to being over, you can expect to see these bills roll out at banks, ATMs and other places this fall.
